Race for deputy mayor: Nepali Congress at front in 3 of 4 metropolitan cities

Form left: Hari Prabha Khadgi, Parbati Shah and Geeta Satyal

Kathmandu, May 16

Whereas the CPN-UML has been leading vote counting of mayoral elections in all four metropolitan cities of the country, the Nepali Congress is leading the race for deputy mayor in three of them.

Hari Prabha Khadgi of Kathmandu, Parvati Shah of Bharatpur and Geeta Satyal of Lalitpur are ahead of Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Rajaram Shrestha, CPN-UML’s Divya Acharya and RPP’s Babu Kaji Thapa respectively.

In Pokhara, however, the UML is leading in both positions. Congress candidate Saraswati Gurung is lagging behind UML’s Manju Gurung.

In most local bodies among around two dozen local bodies, of which the final results have already been announced, the positions of mayor and deputy mayor have been shared between different parties.

Results at the ward level are also mixed in many places.
