Locals have set fire to the office of Champawati hydropower project located in Siranchowk rural municipality-2 in Gorkha.
Locals of Rainas municipality of Lamjung set fire to the office on Saturday afternoon because the hydropower company failed to fulfil its agreement with the locals.
The fire completely damaged a mini truck and a motorbike. The JCB present at the site was also damaged, according to SP Kedar Khanal.
Khanal said locals set fire to two temporary shelters of the project.
“The locals were upset about the water discharge being lower than the company had agreed. As they didn’t have enough water to irrigate their fields, they were upset,” says Khanal.
Over 500 people went to the office of the hydropower and vandalised it.
