Kathmandu, August 9
The Nepali Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has started reaching out to Nepali workers, who have been facing difficulties due to closure of companies and employers’ refusal to pay them salary, among other reasons.
In a press release, the consulate said it is providing food to 41 Nepali nationals, who have been facing problems due to the closure of a construction company named Saudi Oger.
Nepali workers had complained to the consulate that they had been finding it hard to make a living with the company’s mess closed on July 27. Nepalis working in the company have not received salary since January.
The consulate said it has already sent six Nepali workers home. We are working in coordination with Saudi Labour Ministry to provide exit visas to Nepali workers, who want to return home, the consulate stated in the release.
The mission said it is also coordinating with Saudi authorities to transfer interested workers in other firms.
It has appealed workers in dire straits to contact the Nepali Embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah.
