Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada says revitalising the national economy hardly hit by the global coronavirus outbreak will be the top priority of the budget plan for the next fiscal year.
Khatiwada is scheduled to announce the plan for the fiscal year beginning mid-July in Parliament on May 28. The House of Representatives on Sunday began the pre-budget discussion and minister Khatiwada addressed the meeting, spelling out the budget’s policies and priorities.
He said the government would prioritise employment-generating activities to make the economy moving, adding the government was aware of the rising unemployment due to the return of Nepalis currently working abroad after the crisis. The federal, provincial, and local governments work together to engage the youth in agriculture, small and cottage industries, and service sectors, according to him.
Meanwhile, Khatiwada assured that the government would ensure the availability of sufficient budget for the national pride projects and other infrastructure projects that could transform the national economy.
