Kathmandu, May 29
Ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre have agreed to withdraw the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki after the main opposition CPN-UML warned of obstructing the Parliament meeting this afternoon, at which the government is scheduled to present annual budget statement for next fiscal year.
Though the three major parties had agreed to withdraw the motion on Saturday, proposer and seconder of the motion had requested Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar not to move forward the motion, but had not withdrawn the proposal as agreed.
Following the request, the UML was angry with ruling parties and had warned of obstructing the House meeting if the promise was not made.
“Prime Minister and Sher Bahadur Deuba had said they had agreed to withdraw the impeachment motion and had directed their lawmakers accordingly. They have expressed the commitment again to withdraw the motion,” UML Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Subas Chandra Nembang told reporters after a meeting of top leaders of the major parties on Sunday evening.
“Now, information about withdrawal of the motion will be sent to the every place which had been notified about the registration of the motion.”
