Kathmandu, May 15
Rabindra Mishra-led Sajha Party has demanded that the government erect fences along the Nepal-India border in order to prevent any border encroachment as recently surfaced in the Kalapani region.
In a statement on Friday, the party’s spokesperson Surya Raj Acharya says the government should “open only specific border points between the two countries by maintaining proper documentation, and erect barbed-wire fences in rest of the border region – without putting the people living in the border region in any difficulty.”
The party has also suggested that regulating the cross-border movement of the people by using passports, citizenship cards or other identity documents is essential to serve the long-term interests of both Nepal and India.
The party has urged the government to resolve all the issues through talks, adding, “In case there is going to be a delay in such talks, we urge the Government of Nepal to unilaterally start erecting fences in border areas that are free of disputes.”
