Kathmandu, May 2
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Monday produced Sajha Yatayat Chairman and journalist Kanakmani Dixit before the Supreme Court, in response to an SC order on a habeas corpus petition.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki and justice Jagdish Sharma Poudel is conducting a hearing on the petition.
The CIAA had arrested Dixit on the charge of amassing fortunes illegally, triggering an outcry nationally and internationally. Those opposing the arrest had pointed that the commission’s move was an act of vendetta against Dixit, who had opposed the appointment of Lokman Singh Karki as CIAA chief commissioner.
On its part, the CIAA has denied this.
The Special Court had given the CIAA the permission to conduct an investigation against Dixit by keeping him in custody for 10 days. But a hearing has started with Dixit’s wife Shanta filing a habeas corpus petition against the arrest at the Supreme Court.
