Samba arrives in Nepal for International Women’s Football Tournament

Kathmandu, February 17

Nepali national football team’s star forward, Sabitra Bhandari ‘Samba,’ has arrived in Nepal to represent the national team in an international women’s football tournament.

Samba, who has been playing club football in France, landed in Kathmandu on Monday morning. She has returned to participate in the tournament featuring Nepal, Myanmar, Lebanon, and Kyrgyzstan, which kicks off today. The first match is between Myanmar and Lebanon at 2 pm and second match is between Nepal and Kyrgyzstan at 6 pm.

However, she will miss Nepal’s opening match against Kyrgyzstan on Monday evening as she will be resting after her arrival, head coach Rajendra Tamang confirmed.

Six years ago, Nepal defeated Kyrgyzstan 8-2, with Samba scoring four goals in that match.

Nepal will face Lebanon on Thursday and Myanmar on Sunday. The top two teams from the single round-robin league will advance to the final.
