Janakpurdham, June 7
Janamat Party MP Satish Singh has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province. State Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari made the appointment on Friday.
Singh’s appointment follows the provisions of Article 168 of the Constitution. He submitted his claim to the position with the backing of MPs from the CPN-UML, Maoist Center, United Socialist Party, Civil Liberation Party, and Federal Socialist Nepal.
The need for a new Chief Minister arose after Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal’s Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav lost a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on Wednesday. The provincial chief had set a deadline of Friday for the submission of a claim with majority support for the formation of a new government.
The newly appointed Chief Minister Singh is scheduled to take his oath of office shortly.
