Kathmandu, May 31

The government has formally decided to hold the second round of local elections on June 28.

A meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday morning decided to postpone polling day for five days following requests by the Muslim community.

The government had earlier decided to conduct the elections on June 14. It had been deferred to June 23 to amend the electoral laws to allow time for the Rastriya Janata Party to prepare to contest the elections.

The elections were postponed upon the request of the Muslim Community as the holy month of Ramadan ends on June 29.
