Kathmandu, January 21
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has addressed the nation on Friday, for the first time since his appointment in July 2021.
In his address, Deuba, however, did not bring any excitement. He instead tried to cover his government’s lethargic performance, highlighting regular activities as achievements.
Likewise, he also tried to address recent concerns about some ruling alliance members’ willingness to delay local elections.
Deuba said the government was committed to holding elections of local, provincial and federal parliaments within 2022. He urged parties, the public and other stakeholders to begin preparing for the same.
As Deuba did not categorically mention the local elections would be held before provincial and federal polls, he is still likely to be blamed for not expressing commitment to the rule of law.
In the televised address, the prime minister also said the government would begin administering booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccines to the elderly above 60 within the next three weeks.
