Itahari, October 23
Minister for Labour and Employment, Suryaman Gurung, said on Monday certain quarters are attacking secularism in a bid to bring back the institution of monarchy.
He said this while addressing an interaction that Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Association had organised in Dharan of Sunsari district. Nepal is a country of different ethnicities, religions and cultures, so it cannot be a state of one specific religion, Minister Gurung said. Secularism has not come in the way of protection of any religion, he said, adding: In future too, it will not pose such obstructions.
Indra Bahadur Gurung, president of the association, said there’s a need to make federal states multi-ethnic and inclusive-proportionate.
