Kathmandu, June 17

Three persons have been shortlisted for the vacant position of the dean of Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine.

A search committee headed by Prof Dr Prem Gyawali submitted the names of Pradeep Baidya, Divya Singh Shah and Uttam Krishna Shrestha to the TU Executive Council.

Of the nominees, Baidya is considered close to Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel, who is also the pro-chancellor of the university. Likewise, Shah is Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s personal physician. Shrestha is the current executive director of Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre under the institute.

The position is vacant since the retirement of Prof Dr Jagadesh Prasad Agrawal around two days ago. Following his retirement, the university’s VC Dharma Kanta Banskota had formed the selection committee.

Now, the council will appoint one among the three.
