There is this rhythm in the paintings on display in the group art exhibition, Sirjana-2022: A Collective Art Show.
Sirjana-2022 began on Sunday at Nepal Art Council, Babermahal and is the annual show from the master’s of Sirjana College of Fine Arts.
A range with rhythm
In the exhibition, most rhythmic paintings are created in the abstract form where their composition and colour combination have enhanced their fluidity, sending out pleasant vibes to the viewers. Veteran artist Shashi Shah’s two paintings—Colourful Horses and Black Horses— featured in the exhibition showcase horses on movement. There is this sense of rhythm on those running horses.
Likewise, artist Navindra Man Rajbhandari has created a set of four abstract paintings titled Tamasoma Jyotirgmaya using bold and vibrant colours like red, yellow, black, white and more. His curvy, straight or curly lines also have similar essence as if the lines are dancing to some happy music.
Then, artist Sunil Ranjit using the religious motif of Mahakaali depicted the mask dance in the abstract form where he beautifully played with the luminosity in his composition for Sirjana-2022. Not only religious motifs, but he has also represented the social life of rural Kathmandu, where a few Newa men and women are busy with rice planting and playing musical instruments in another set of paintings.
Installation art too
Moreover, the first floor of the gallery for Sirjana-2022 is garnered with paintings, installations, and sculptors.
As you enter the gallery, a larger-than-life-size dragonfly by veteran artist Sharada Man Shrestha welcomes you warmly. This sculpture is made of scrap and waste materials. Other sculptors whose artworks are on display are Gopal Kalapremi Shrestha, Chandra Shyam Dangol and Prakash Ratna Shakya.
Then, Sirjana-2022 also features paintings from veteran artists such as Krishna Manandhar, Batsa Gopal Vaidya, Sharda Ranjit, Madan Chitra, Radheshyam Mulmi, Lok Chitrakar, Shyam Lal Shrestha, and Devina Malla among others.
Moreover, one gets to witness artworks from different generations of artists and modern and traditional artworks. This year, 24 artists’ artworks have been showcased in the exhibition.
Other highlights of Sirjana-2022 are musical programmes, folk dances and portrait workshops. The musical and folk dance programme was held on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. The portrait workshop will begin at 12:30 pm on Thursday and anyone interested can visit the exhibition to participate in it.
The exhibition continues till May 27.
