Kathmandu, January 4
Criticisms from stakeholders and media have forced the government to withdraw a plan to open a restaurant at the Narayanhiti Palace Museum.
The Narayanhiti Palace Museum and Republic Memorial Management and Operation Committee says it has asked the company that had leased the land to discontinue ongoing construction works. It has been learned that Culture and Tourism Minister Prem Bahadur Ale directed the committee to stop the plan.
Earlier, the media had reported the Narayanhiti Palace Museum that occupies the residence and office of monarchs of the country that were in power until the birth of republicanism in 2008 would soon have a commercial restaurant to let the visitors dine in.
In the meantime, it was also revealed that the new construction works were not approved by the local government.
