Kathmandu, January 22
Street vendors staged a protest in front of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City office on Monday.
This comes after the city police seized the street vendors’ carts, bicycles and other belongings. The city police, which had become lenient towards street vendors following the protest by Iih, have become strict and started seizing their belongings.
The city police, on Sunday, seized over 30 carts from vendors.
The committee established by the metropolis to oversee sidewalk businesses has not agreed on how to effectively manage street vendors.
Kumar Sapkota, who led the protest today, and is a member of the committee tasked with implementing the agreement between the metropolis and Iih, mentioned that discussions are ongoing regarding the continuation of protests against alleged misconduct by the city police.
