Kathmandu, May 26

Nepal Police on Thursday started a free bus service for people stuck on the road owing to the nationwide transport strike that transporters have enforced against the government decision to hike fees for traffic rule violations.

NP is operating its buses along two routes. NP buses will start their services from NP headquarters in Naxal and return to Naxal after picking and dropping passengers at Putalisadak, Jawalakhel, Ekantakuna, Balkhu, Kalimati, Tripureshwor and Naxal.

Another set of NP buses will start services from Naxal and return to the same point after picking and dropping passengers at Gyaneshwor, Gaushala, Airport, New Baneshwor, Thapathali, Tripureshwor, Lazimpat, Maharajgunj, Narayan Gopal Chok and Baluwatar.

Means of public transport have remained off nationwide due to the transporters’ strike, causing great hardships to the public.

Nepal Police, Nepali Army and a number of other institutions had provided transport services to the public during the Indian blockade, which had caused a severe shortage of petroleum products, forcing public buses and other means of public transport to remain off the road.
