The Supreme Court has issued an interim order against the federal government in response to a case filed by the Province 2 government.

The provincial Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment had filed the case against the central government’s decision to merge the province’s Sagarnath Forest Project into the Timber Corporation of Nepal. In response, the constitutional bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana, justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Mira Khadka and Hari Krishna Karki told the Kathmandu government not to implement the decision now.

The provincial Minister of State for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Suresh Mandal says both the parties have been called to the court for a discussion in the next hearing.

In its writ, the provincial government had claimed the federal government interfered in its jurisdiction in deciding the merger.
