I’m always looking for different food items around the valley and while doing so I come across some fun places. One of them is The Bent Fork, a quaint bistro nestled in a quiet neighbourhood of Bishal Nagar.
Opened over two years ago, the place was previously located at Hotel Heranya. But in order to create an identity of their own, the owner, Ayesha, decided to move to a bigger place. The cafe has inside and outside seating and is an ideal to beat the summer heat by sipping on a variety of refreshing mocktails and cocktails.
The interior has been carefully designed by the owner who has paid a lot of attention to detail. She has made it look as homely as possible. If one spends some time there you feel that you are dining is your cosy living room indulging and what you have in front of you is your favourite. Even your favourite board games are also there.
The name ‘Bent Fork’ has been adapted from Ayesha’s favourite restaurant in the United States and the menu is a mix of European and American as she has tried to implement what she has learnt during her time in Norway and the US. The menu covers for late brunch, lunch, and dinner.
To start with, Ayesha recommended the tortellini which has a stuffing of eggplant, sweet corn and ricotta cheese which was cooked in mushroom and white wine sauce. The dish was full of flavours as the sauce complimented the fillings inside the pasta which is made at the cafe itself.
Apart from the pasta, the cafe is known for its salads and burgers and as hungry as I was, I decided to try them both. First I went for the herbed tofu salad which had greens, tomatoes, carrots, onions, sweet corn lemons, raisins and sesame dressing. The tofu salad, is high in protein, low in carbohydrates and is a vegan diet. It was a crunchy and colourful mix of delicious vegetables and fried tofu that looked great and tasted even better.
After indulging in the healthy salad I tried the signature grilled chicken burger which has grilled chicken breast, bacon, tomatoes, cheese, caramelised onion, and egg. I loved the taste of it even though it was a bit dry and less spicy for my liking. But overall it was delicious and full of flavours.
Ayesha is also a baker and does all the desserts at the restaurant. She had recently prepared vanilla and fresh strawberry cake. The cake was really good and was soft and spongy and creamy and tasted different to cakes made around the valley as she doesn’t use any artificial flavours.
The cafe also serves beef for those who like a good hearty steak. Along with that, the menu also has an array of food items to indulge in like the Salmon, the vegetarian/seafood Thai curry. So you can indulge in salads, or a long list of meaty burgers to vegetarian and tofu burgers and for dinners, one can choose from a lift of juicy steak, bangers, and mash, to an array of fish items.
The best thing about the cafe is that it’s ideal for everyone. One can hang out with their friends or can come dine with their family both will be an enjoyable experience. The various board games available inside will help kids pass their time while their parents dine or can run play outside in the garden which will help digest their food.
Unlike many restaurants which are close to busy roads, Bent Fork offers you more than just good food. It offers a unique experience that not many restaurants offer. The price is a tad expensive but as they use organic products, olive oils, and give generous portions one will not have to leave the place without being fulfilled. The staffs are friendly and kind and will greet you with a smile the entire time you’re there.
