Kathmandu, February 13
TikTok has written another letter to the government of Nepal asking it to remove the ban. Sending a letter to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on February 11, TikTok expressed its commitment to run its platform following the laws of Nepal and asked for the ban to be lifted.
The Council of Ministers meeting decided to ban TikTok on November 13, 2023, saying that TikTok had spread social hatred and violated social dignity. After that, TikTok wrote a letter to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority on November 16, 2023, and to the Ministry of Communication on December 6 asking them to withdraw the ban.
On February 11 again, TikTok wrote a letter addressing the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma.
In the letter, TikTok has committed to address the concerns raised by Nepal. “TikTok would like to commit to doing more work in five key areas for business continuity in Nepal,” the letter said.
A few days before TikTok was banned, the government had introduced guidelines on social media, in which such platforms should be registered in Nepal and contact offices should be established.
In the letter, TikTok said that it is ready to fulfil this arrangement in Nepal.
