Kathmandu, June 14
In a significant move, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has implemented a comprehensive ban on smoking, drinking, and drug use across its jurisdiction. The announcement came from Metropolitan Chief Balen Shah during the presentation of the policy and programme for the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25.
The new regulations aim to enhance public health and safety within the city limits. Alongside the ban on harmful substances, the consumption of junk food will also be discouraged as part of the initiative.
Metropolitan Chief Shah emphasised that stringent measures will be enforced to ensure the quality and hygiene standards of food products entering Kathmandu. Furthermore, he outlined plans to modernise the registration process for healthcare facilities in the metropolitan area through the integration of information technology.
In addressing urban poverty, Mayor Shah said a targeted programme will be introduced to tackle multifaceted challenges and promote poverty alleviation strategies within the urban context.
