Truth and Reconciliation Commission gets extension

Kathmandu, February 9

Nepal’s government has decided to extend the tenure of Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission for the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) for a year.

The commissions were formed in February 205 to investigate rights abuse cases during insurgency era. Both commissions have only registered complaints so far, and haven’t started their investigations.

The move comes as the commissions wrote to the government requesting an extension and changes in relevant laws to make their work more effective.
