Two injured as police open fire during wedding party

Janakpurdham, February 28

Two people sustained injuries when police alleged opened fire during a wedding procession in Sabaila municipality, Dhanusha district, at 10.30 pm on Saturday.

Local people alleged police opened fire amid playing of loud music during the procession.

Police personnel under the command of Surendra Yadav, constable at the Sabaila Area Police Office, opened fire as revellers made noise while dancing and playing the music during the marriage of a daughter of Dipnarayan Mandal of Sabaila-8. The injured, Bimal Mandal and Kamlesh Mandal, are receiving treatment at Janakpur zonal hospital. Bimal and Kamlesh have sustained injuries in the thigh and shoulder.

Ram Dutta Joshi, superintendent of police at Dhanusha, said someone from the crowd opened fire on police during the procession while they had rushed to Sabaila to settle a dispute. Joshi said police retaliated in self-defence.
