Kathmandu, October 29
Police in Morang district of eastern Nepal have arrested two leaders of the Maoist party led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ in possession of various explosive devices.
The arrestees have been identified as Kashinath Ghimire aka Prateek from Surunga municipality-2 of Saptari and Bigyan Rai aka Sanam from Chulachuli rural municipality-6 of Ilam. The Morang District Police Office says they were arrested at the house of Bijuli Prasad Timsina at Ghurmise, Miklajung rural municipality-1 of Morang on Wednesday.
Police confiscated a loaded gun, three kilograms of gelignite, 35 detonators, 18 non-electric detonators, four packets of gunpowder, and other improvised explosive devices from their possession.
Ghimire is the company commissar of the party’s eastern command (Mechi-Koshi bureau) as well as a former secretary of the Saptari district committee. Likewise, Rai is a general member of the party. Further investigation is underway.
Acting on a tip-off that some leaders and cadres of the party, whose activities have been banned by the government, have been residing there, the DPO had mobilised a team under the command of SP Santosh Khadka.
