Kathmandu, May 16
In their bid to end the months-long internal dispute in the CPN-UML, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his party’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have commissioned a 10-member task force on Sunday.
The team includes five leaders from both factions. Nepal says the task force will prepare a deal between the two sides that will effectively take back the party to the status of May 2018 when it was not unified with the then CPN-Maoist Centre.
The members including Subas Nembang, Bishnu Paudel, Shankar Pokhrel, Pradeep Gyawali and Bishnu Rimal from the Oli side and Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Raghuji Panta and Gokarna Bista from the Nepal side.
As soon as the Supreme Court reinstated the UML party to its pre-2018 status, Oli as the party chair had made various changes in the party organisation such as removing leaders from their responsibilities and inducting Maoist leaders supporting him into the party. The Nepal side had been conducting parallel activities in response to Oli’s move.
Of late, the side has stopped its parallel activities with Oli withdrawing the suspension of the four leaders after the disgruntled faction warned of resigning from the House of Representatives. If the leaders leave the House, the opposition will get a chance to oust Oli.
Therefore, the two sides are preparing to forge a middle-path agreement.
