Kathmandu, November 7

CPN-UML leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said on Monday demands to incorporate certain issues in the Constitution are not appropriate.

The UML leader said there can be no agreement on such issues.

The UML leader, who is also chief of the UML’s Publicity Department, said this during a meeting with US Ambassador to Nepal, Alaina B Teplitz. During the meeting, Ambassador Teplitz had expressed concern about Constitution amendment.

At the meeting, Nepal said: We have already amended two clauses of the Consitution as per Madheshi parties’ demands. Amending Constitution at such short intervals without any reason is a practice that does not exist anywhere in the world.

In a press release, the department quoted Nepal as saying during the meeting: We have already amended two clauses of the Consitution as per demands coming from Madheshi parties. Amending Constitution at such short intervals without any reason is a practice that does not exist anywhere in the world. Issues raised seeking Constitution amendment are inappropriate and there can be no agreement on them.

Teplitz expressed hope that Nepal’s political parties will come together for the sake of political stability.

She said her country will always work together with Nepal for its economic development, political stability and good governance.

“The diplomat lauded efforts aimed at bringing about political stability in Nepal after promulgation of the new Constitution. She expressed hope that all parties will come together for stability,” the press release reads.

On his part, the former prime minister thanked the US for providing continued assistance to Nepal. He said Nepal will welcome additional assistance and investment in a context that has developed after Constitution promulgation.
