Dhangadhi, January 17
UCPN-Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Sunday that boundaries of Province 7 will be redrawn to incorporate demands of Madheshi and Tharu communities.
Prachanda was speaking at a press conference that Revolutionary Journalists’ Association had organised in Kailali.
Redrawing of Province 7’s boundaries is a must for a new deal with Madheshi and Tharu communities, he said. Prachanda maintained specifically that bounaries of Tharu-majority areas in Kanchanpur and Kailali can be redrawn.
Talks with Madheshi parties are heading in a positive direction, he said, adding that there will be a written agreement with these parties by Monday.
“We are trying to incorporate demands of agitating parties’ demands including redrawing of provincial boundaries and amending the constitution, he said, adding: I have directed (UCPN-Maoist) General Secretary to show flexibility in talks. The customs points will open if there’s an understanding,” he said.
Prachanda stressed the need for a national government for implementation of the new constitution and for post-quake reconstruction works. Talks are on with Nepali Congress leaders for the formation of a unity government, he said.
