Design and display

Xiaomi 12 Lite

Xiaomi 12 Lite has a pleasing design. The phone comes with a glass front, glass back and a plastic frame build. The phone borrows some of the design traits from its expensive siblings Xiaomi 12, 12X and 12 Pro. The glass back of the phone has ditched the oval-shaped camera module and instead has a box-shaped one, which looks way better. The flat frame design with unified colour schemes and the matte finish provides a fashionable vibe and a pleasant feel. There is no mention of IP ratings on the phone.

The phone weighs about 173 grams and is 7.29 mm in thickness. The phone should be comfortable to carry around. It is available in black, lite green and lite pink colour options.

On the front is a 6.55-inch AMOLED display offering a resolution of 2,400×1,080 pixels and a 402 PPI density. The display should offer more details and enhancement in colour and contrast in the media as it supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision features. Furthermore, the display also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate, which is an upgrade from last year. The display can also reach a peak brightness of 950 nits, which should make the use of the phone comfortable and visible in daylight as well.

Furthermore, the display has features like sunlight mode 3.0, reading mode 3.0 and true display for the comfort of the user’s eyes. The display has a Gorilla Glass 5 protection, which is a downgrade from last year’s Gorilla Glass 6. There is also an under-display optical fingerprint sensor for biometrics.

Cameras

Xiaomi 12 Lite gets an update in the camera. The camera gets bigger not only in terms of pixels but also in size. There is a triple camera setup on the back of the phone. An 8MP ultrawide sensor accompanies the 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor. It also comes with a FOV of 120 degrees and a downgraded 2MP macro lens with an aperture of f/2.4 and no auto-focus. Then, the phone has a bigger 32MP selfie camera this time with an aperture of f/2.5 and an autofocus feature.

The camera modes on the phone include 108MP mode, eye tracking focus, night mode, motion capture, timed burst, AI portrait mode with Bokeh, depth control, AI sky scaping, magic cutout, and one-click AI cinema, 19 vlog modes, 12 video filters and time-lapse video.

The primary camera on the Xiaomi 12 Lite is capable of capturing videos in 4K resolution up to 30fps and can record 1080p videos up to 120fps. The front camera on the other hand can only record videos up to 1080p resolution in 60fps.

Performance and storage

Xiaomi 12 Lite runs on MIUI 13, which is based on Android 12. The new MIUI 13 should bring some improvements like better RAM management, better CPU utilisation and more effective storage use. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G (6nm) chipset and Adreno 642L handles the graphical duties. Unlike most phones these days, there is no cooling system on Xiaomi 12 Lite.

For the storage, the phone is currently available with 6GB and 8GB RAM with 128GB internal storage. The phone does not support any external cards in it to expand the memory.

Battery life, connectivity and others

Xiaomi 12 Lite comes with a 4,300mAh non-removable li-po battery. This is enough to provide you with 18 hours of video and 121 hours of music. The battery gets charged with a 67W turbo charger. It can get the battery fully charged in just 41 minutes. Since you can get a good amount of charge in no time, battery backup on the phone should not be a problem as long as you carry the charger. The phone also supports the adaptive charge. This feature learns your daily charging behaviour during nighttime and will pause the charging at 80 per cent while you are asleep and will only start charging again an hour or so before you wake up.

The phone has a dual sim slot, both supporting 5G network connectivity. The support of Wifi 6 and dual band wifi helps the phone get connected to the internet instantly while saving some battery life in the process. Similarly, the availability of Bluetooth 5.2 on the phone allows it to wirelessly pair with other devices. A USB Type-C 2.0 cable is used for charging and wired pairing. The phone also supports GPS and NFC.

For the audio, Xiaomi 12 Lite has dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support, allowing for a more immersive hearing experience. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone.
