Kathmandu, October 13
The Ministry of Health has made three crucial decisions in its bid to make available as many hospital beds as possible for symptomatic Covid-19 patients in Kathmandu.
After the number of active coronavirus infection cases soared in the capital, thousands of patients have been deprived of hospitalisation of late. In this context, the Incident Command System of the ministry on Monday made the following decisions:
- All government-run hospitals in the valley will work as Covid-19 hospitals.
- All surgeries except those requiring immediate attention will be postponed so that the number of ICU beds and ventilators for Covid-19 patients will increase.
- If hospitals want to run their isolation centres in hotels, the government will approve them.
Health Minister Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal was also present at the meeting that made the decisions.
Meanwhile, experts have commented the decision is positive but yet insufficient.
