ANNFSU has objected to the decision of the Prachanda-led government to mark the day of arrival of India’s President Pranab Mukherjee to Nepal as a holiday.
The CPN-UML-aligned student union has protested the decision to mark the days of arrival of India’s President Mukherjee and China’s President Xi Jinping to Nepal as public holidays.
While Mukherjee is arriving in Nepal a day after Bhaitika, China’s President Xi is unlikely to visit Nepal this year.
Sudip Sharma, spokesperson for the ANNFSU, said: Nepali people feel that the decision to declare the day of arrival of India’s president to Nepal is an affront to them. Our attention has been drawn towards this act.
What message is the government of an independent country trying to convey by declaring the day of arrival of a foreign head of state as a public holiday?

Decision to grant a holiday coinciding with Mukherjee’s visit will affect public life, trade and commerce. The government must correct this decision.
The decision to grant a holiday coinciding with Mukherjee’s visit will affect public life, trade and commerce, the student union said, demanding that the government correct this decision.
In its press release, ANNFSU said it is ready to organise any kind of protest programme for the sake of Nepali self-pride if the government does not make amends. On November 2, India’s President Mukherjee is arriving in Nepal on a three-day visit, making it the first time in 18 years that an Indian head of state will be visiting Nepal.
