Minister for Physical Planning and Transport, Ramesh Lekhak, has directed transport authorities to open additional transport managment offices within 10 days.

Minister Lekhak on Monday visited Bagmati zonal transport management office in Ekantakuna, together with chief of the Department of Transport Management. When Minister appeared at the office, service-seekers in queue shouted slogans against corrupt employees.

Lekhak said people got angry because they had to queue up for hours. He told the department chief: I will return to this office in the next 11 days. By then, you should have opened additional offices. Lekhak also directed the officials to make arrangements for registering forms online.

Chandra Man Shrestha, director-general at the department, said problems have appeared because the server is weak. On his part, Minister Lekhak shouted: This is your problem and you solve it, no matter what.

On an average, 5,000 people visit the transport management office for filling up licence forms. Distribution of licence forms resumed recently after a hiatus of about two months.

Tej Narayan Yadav, chief of the Licence Department, said they cannot accept more than 800 forms, though about 5,000 people visit the office daily to fill up the forms.
