Kathmandu, December 23
The court case against Lok Man Singh Karki is set to be a lengthy affair.
The case questions Karki’s eligibility for appointment in a constitutional position.
Hearing on the writ petition challenging Karki’s appointment as chief commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority is going on in the Supreme Court.
It will take about a week for lawyers representing the plaintiff and the defendants to put forth their arguments. Karki was in the court on Friday, a day after he came under attack there. The court decided that he won’t have to appear in person while the case drags on. Karki can appoint a legal representative to represent him in the court.
Meanwhile, on Friday, lawyers representing Karki put forth their views. Advocates Madhav Basnet and Bal Krishna Neupane spoke in defence of Karki. Still, more lawyers are yet to articulate their views.
On Thursday, a full bench of SC justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha started hearing on the petition that advocate Om Prakash Aryal had filed.
The case is ‘under consideration’ of the court. A lawyer said the hearing is likely to continue till Thursday.
