Kathmandu, April 26
Top leaders of major four political parties on Wednesday are holding a meeting in a bid to resume House business, which was obstructed owing to the protest of main opposition CPN-UML.
Leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre and Rastriya Prajatantra Party are scheduled to meet and search for the solution after the UML obstructed Parliament meeting yesterday claiming the government tried to increase the number of local levels in Terai region inappropriately and unconstitutionally.
The UML has been stressing that the number should not be changed as the nation has already geared up for the local level elections.
The party leaders said the resumption of House business would not be possible unless the government withdrew from its decision to revise the number as per an agreement signed with the agitating Madheshi Morcha.
New controversy on the surface
It has been learned that the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development recently sent a letter to 11 districts directing to suggest additions to the local bodies.
The opposition, meanwhile, has questioned why the government applied a different standard for those districts.
The districts which would have more local levels include Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Siraha, Saptari, Dhanusha and Mahottari of Province 2 and Nawalparasi, Rupandehi and Kapilvastu of Province 5.
The selection does not corroborate with the population density as the most populous districts of Kailali, Kanchanpur, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Chitwan, Banke and Bardiya have not been directed to recommend the increase.
