Kathmandu, April 27
The Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, formed after the merger of six Madhesh-centric parties, on Wednesday applied for registration at the Election Commission.
The party, which was initially named Rastriya Janata Party, added “Nepal” into its name after finding that the proposed name was already registered with the Commission.
The party has demanded that the Commission provide it with the election symbol of an umbrella.
The Commission, however, has already clarified that no new symbol can be issued for upcoming local level elections.
It has been learned that the Commission has asked the new party to go for the polls with the symbol of any of its constituents.
