The main opposition CPN-UML has warned that it will not let the government prorogue the current session of Parliament unless ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre withdraw the impeachment motion their lawmakers filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki.
The government is planning to prorogue the session today, but the parties are unlikely to withdraw the motion.
The opposition party says it will obstruct the House meeting scheduled for today if the ruling parties does not take back the proposal.
UML Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Subas Chandra Nembang says ending the House session without withdrawing the motion, which the parties failed to move forward, will be irresponsible.
Nembang further accuses the government of depriving Parliament of its business whereas it was supposed to table various bills related to provincial and federal elections.
“No business has been given to Parliament today,” the former Speaker comments, “It is very irresponsible to end the session by putting the impeachment motion on hold.”
Though the parties which filed the motion, Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre, are not in a mood to withdraw the motion anytime soon, the Supreme Court has already ordered the Parliament Secretariat not to move the motion.
Accordingly, CJ Karki has already returned to her office. She is due to retire in June first week.
