Chitwan, May 22
Nepal on Monday burned thousands of body parts of animals seized from poachers and smugglers, which it said was a bid to discourage the animal poaching.
A total of 4,012 of animal parts stored at the Armed Forest Guard Training Centre, Tikauli, and Kasara of the Chitwan National Park, were destroyed.
Three Cabinet ministers and senior officials witnessed the event organised at the Chitwan National Park in Chitwan district.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat said animals also have the right to life and poaching of rare wildlife is a serious crime.
He said that the government would not leave any stone unturned to take strict action against those involved in wildlife poaching.
He said that support of local communities was necessary to the government bodies to reduce poaching.
Similarly, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation, Shankar Bhandari said that the animal parts and trophies were burned to give a message that animal parts and trophies were useless for any purpose.
Likewise, Minister for Population and Environment, Jayadev Joshi said that conservation of rare wildlife has now become a challenge.
The government has planned to build a monument on the ash from the destruction.
Before this, the government had destroyed such body parts in 1998.
