Dahal says Tikapur incident was a political revolt

Kathmandu, September 8

Ruling Nepal Communist Party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal says the incident in which seven police personnel and a child was allegedly killed by protestants in Tikapur of Kailali four years ago was a political revolt.

Speaking with members of the Tharuhat/Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee at his residence in Khumaltar of Lalitpur on Sunday, Dahal said that was a political revolt carried out by the Tharus and the ‘innocent Tharus’ should not be charged in connection with the incident.

Earlier, in March, the Kailali District Court had sentenced 12 persons to jail for life for their involvement in the incident. The convicts also include House of Representatives member Resham Lal Chaudhary. Three persons, however, were acquitted.

Meanwhile, the committee demanded that Dahal take initiatives to withdraw cases filed against various persons in connection with the incident. It also said the government should make a report of the investigation commission led by former justice Girish Chandra Lal public at the earliest.
