Kathmandu, December 19
The Patan High Court in Lalitpur has scheduled a hearing on an appeal filed by former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, demanding that the court release him from the judicial custody while the trail over an attempt to rape case against him is underway at Kathmandu District Court.
The district court on November 4 had sent Mahara to judicial custody. Since then, he is in Dillibajaar Prison.
However, the leader filed an appeal at the high court on November 21, asking for a release. Whereas the district court had claimed that available evidence suggested that Mahara could not be innocent, the leader has claimed otherwise in the appeal.
Chief judge Nahakul Subedi and judge Tek Narayan Kunwar are hearing the case at the high court today.
