1 killed in Jhapa fire

Damak, January 12

A sexagenarian has died in a fire in Damak, the district headquarters of Jhapa in eastern Nepal, on Monday evening.

The victim has been identified as Desh Man Rai, 60, a resident of the Bhutanese refugee camp, Damak-3 of the district.

Rai, a paralysis patient, was asleep when his one-storey hut made of bamboos caught fire at around 7:30 pm yesterday. The cause of the incident is not known yet.

Locals and personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force contained the fire later.

The District Police Office says gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 300,000, and foodstuffs and clothes worth Rs 800,000 were gutted in the fire.
