Kathmandu, March 19
Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel has reigned from the position on Friday.
A source says Kharel was thinking of quitting as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was not satisfied with him after the Supreme Court rejected the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives last month. Kharel had led the team of government attorneys and private lawyers defending Oli’s decision.
But, speaking with the press this afternoon, Kharel said he decided to resign after consultation with the PM, and not due to any differences with him.
The former minister was active in the CPN-UML party before getting appointed as the legal advisor to the government in February 2018. It is expected that he will be active in the party again following the resolution also.
