Kathmandu, May 10
A company whose majority of the shares is owned by Suraj Vaidya, a former president of the Federation of the Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, is found cheating poultry farmers of the country by selling the chicken feed sacks that weighed less than what was marked on their packaging, claims the government.
The Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology says the Nepal Wellhope Agri-Tech Pvt Ltd was welling 46 kg ‘Bijaya’ chicken feed in a sack that was labelled 50 kg. The bureau is preparing to file a lawsuit against the company although the Department of Commerce has already fined it Rs 300,000.
“We have already confiscated 10 sacks of the feed that weighed less,” Shashi Bhushan Yadav, the chief of the bureau’s Birgunj office, says.
Earlier, Yadav’s office had received a complaint from farmers about less weight.
The charge comes at a time when several media reports have accused Vaidya of blocking Nepal’s Covid-19 vaccine import plan by demanding some hefty commission.
