Kathmandu, February 6
Officials have detected bird flu in three areas of the Kathmandu valley, namely Ramkot and Tarakeshwar of Kathmandu and Khumaltar of Lalitpur.
An official at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Management says the first case of H5N1 infection was detected in the poultry farm operated by the Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) in Khumaltar. As the farm was a bit small, the affected fowls have already been culled, according to the official.
Following that, the infection was found on a farm in Ramkot, Nagarjun municipality-6, and one in Tarakeshwar.
Whereas the affected birds and eggs have already been destroyed in Ramkot, the culling is still awaited in Tarakeshwar.
Last year in the same season, the disease was seen in the Tarakeshwar municipality of Kathmandu, but it was taken under control immediately.
