Kathmandu, December 26
Civil society leaders and activists have urged the government to launch an investigation into Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana for money laundering claiming his involvement in illegal activities.
Govinda KC and Narayan Wagle among other members of a civil society group have lodged a complaint at the Department of Money Laundering Investigation on Sunday with the demand.
For the past few months, Rana has been dragged into controversies claiming he compromised judicial independence to gain undue benefits from several parties. Rana, however, is adamant against the demand.
The umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers, Nepal Bar Association, has been carrying out different protest programmes demanding Rana’s resignation from the top judicial position.
