An investigation has been initiated by the Revenue Investigation Department against 42 customs officials of Tribhuvan International Airport.

These employees are accused of engaging in fraudulent activities such as creating false bills and helping individuals evade customs duties.

The initial investigation findings reveal that the employees aided traders during the customs clearance process by accepting false bills during the inspection of imported goods entering Nepal from foreign countries.

“It has been seen that those employees have passed the customs inspection of the imported goods on the basis of fake bills raised by the traders with the purpose of evading the revenue,” said the Revenue Investigation Department.

Department sources revealed that an investigation is underway to probe the alleged involvement of employees in facilitating customs evasion, which is suspected to have resulted in the evasion of hundreds of millions in revenue.

The department has refused to reveal the names of the customs officials involved and the amount of revenue the country has lost out on as the matter is under investigation.

The department has identified the involvement of employees ranging from non-gazetted officials to section officers who helped traders generate counterfeit bills.
