Gorkha, February 20
There has been negligence in the reconstruction of the Bishweshwar Mahadev temple located in Palungtar Municipality-10, Meerkot, Gorkha.
Locals have expressed their displeasure, stating that the historical appearance and structure of the temple, which is about 400 years old, have been altered during the reconstruction.
According to the temple’s priest Chabilal Giri, the historical tundals (a wooden artefact) are missing after the reconstruction of the temple. He said, “Earlier there were tundals with decoratives, which were taken away during the reconstruction process, now instead of those tundals, tundals without any designs have been installed.”
However, according to Nabaraj Adhikari, then head of the Gorkha Museum the temple was rebuilt in its original form one and half years after the earthquake in 2015. “The temple, which was dilapidated before the earthquake, was initially repaired by the locals at their own expense. During that time, the original tundals were damaged,” he said, “They are now kept at the premises of Gorkha Museum and after repairing them, they will be installed.”
According to him, Rs 9 million was allocated for the reconstruction of the temple but the contract was settled for Rs 7.3 million including VAT to Chhayaswari New KP JV.
