Kathmandu, February 25
Nepal’s start to the 2024-2027 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (CWC League 2) has gone off to a poor start after losing yet another match at home on Sunday.
In what was a one-sided contest, Nepal were beaten by the Netherlands by eight wickets at the TU Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Being asked to bat, Nepal could only manage to score 172 runs being bowled out inside the 50-over mark. Despite a good start given to the hosts by Kushal Bhurtel, no other batter got going as Nepal once again failed to perform with the bat. Bhurtel toiled hard for his 66 of 93 balls but with no support, Nepal were bundled out for a below-par total.
Aryan Dutt and Vivian Kingma were superb with the ball picking up three wickets each.
In reply, the Netherlands made light work of the target attacking the spinners from the stat. The openers Max O’Dowd and Michael Levitt put up a 61-run stand to give the Netherlands a solid start which was taken advantage of by Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht who put up a 102-run stand to win the game with 73 balls to spare.
The three teams will not take on each other in a T20 Tri-Series from Tuesday.
