Kathmandu, May 29
The stock market fell the day after Finance Minister Barshman Pun announced the budget for the next financial year 2024/25. The NEPSE index decreased by 23.81 points (1.12 per cent) today compared to the previous day.
Though the NEPSE index decreased, the turnover increased. The turnover of Rs 3.89 billion the previous day rose to Rs 4.57 billion today.
A total of 56 companies saw an increase, while 191 experienced a decrease. The manufacturing group’s index increased the most by 2.68 per cent. However, the hotel and tourism sector decreased by 1.13 per cent, business by 0.69 per cent, and finance by 0.14 per cent.
The banking group’s index fell the most by 2.94 per cent. Other declines included the Development Bank by 1.11 per cent, Hydropower by 0.11 per cent, Investment by 0.83 per cent, Life Insurance by 1.30 per cent, Microfinance by 1.71 per cent, and other groups by 0.70 per cent.
The prices of the four companies increased by 10 per cent. Unilever Nepal, Kalinchok Darshan, Upper Lohorekhola, and Bhagwati Hydropower saw the highest increases at 10 per cent. Pokhara Finance rose by 8.17 per cent, Narayani Development Bank by 7.65 per cent, Nepal Warehousing Company by 6.06 per cent, and Muktinath Agricultural Company by 5.85 per cent.
Based on transaction amounts, Pokhara Finance, CEDB Hydropower, Best Cement, NRN Infrastructure, and Hathaway Investment Company led the market.
