The Supreme Court has decided to close all courts across the country on Thursday to mourn the death of a former chief justice.

Anirudra Prasad Singh had served as the chief justice of the apex court from May 21, 1956, to June 29, 1959. Singh had died of pneumonia, at the age of 100, on Tuesday.

Following that, an emergency meeting of the Supreme Court justices on Wednesday had decided to close all courts across the country, concluding his death meant the loss of a patriotic and just personality of the country.

Singh is credited for beginning the publication of Nepal Kanun Patrika, a collection of significant court verdicts.
