ANNFSU, ANNISU-R cadres clash at ASCOL, cops use force against group trying to attack campus chief Raju Mahaju

Kathmandu, February 10

Cadres of the CPN-UML-aligned student wing, ANNFSU, clashed with activists of the CPN-Maoist-Centre-aligned student wing, ANNISU-R, at Amrit Science College (ASCOL), at Lainchaur, Kathmandu, on Friday over admission of students at the college.

This clash is a pointer to a growing debate between sister wings of different political parties over admission of students at a time when Free Student Union elections are around the corner.

The college administration had issued a notice, fixing February 9 as the last date for admission of students. The debate ensued when college chief Raju Mahaju extended the date for admission by a day.

While ANNFSU cadres opposed Mahaju’s move, ANNISU-R activists supported it, deepending the dispute and triggering clashes.

After extension of the deadline, eight students came for admission. They all were from ANNISU-R.

Somendra Singh Rathaur, DSP at Metropolitan Police Circle (Sorhakhutte), said ANNFSU activists tried to attack Mahaju. Police dispersed the group trying to attack Mahaju. Talks have begun between representatives of student bodies and the campus chief.
