All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary has warned private and boarding schools to stick to the government-issued directives on fees fixation or face action.
This comes at a time when private schools are showing unwillingness to stick to the directives.
Malla said: The government prepared the directives in the wake of a long students’ movement. But the government did not show guts while implementing the same. We will launch a movement if the government fails to implement the directives. We ourselves will take action against schools that refuse to abide by the directives.
Proprietors of private schools have taken exception to provisions in the directives that state that they should build earthquake-resistant school buildings and get parents’ approval for their fee structures.
The proprietors have been saying they will ignore the directives because the government prepared and introduced the directives without consulting them.
Karna Bahadur Shahi, N-PABSON chair, says: We support most of the issues mentioned in the directives. But we disagree with provisions on school fees.
Shahi claims they cannot run schools if they are to abide by provisions on fees.
Officials at the Department of Education say they will implement the directives, come what may.
Baikuntha Aryal, DoE director, said they will implement the directives, adding that schools cannot say they will not abide by directives on fees.
“PABSON and N-PABSON — associations of private and boarding schools — took part in the entire process of preparing the directives. Now they are saying they will not stick to the directives. This is unbecoming of the two organisations, this is unexpected,” Aryal said.
“How do you justify their stance when they refuse to build quake-resistant school buildings?” Aryal asked, adding: We will take action against those who refuse to follow the state’s laws.
